There is something so beautiful about the movie Tangled. Over this past week I realized a wonderful connection between this story and the story of Jesus' love for His children.
Rapunzel, imprisoned in her tower, throughout her life, surrounded by signs such as the lanterns in the distance and the symbol of the kingdom which reappeared in her artwork. Though she saw these signs she was unable to recognize they were calling her to step into her true identity.

Rapunzel realizes who she really is she becomes overwhelmed and can see that the one who she thought she needed to run to (Mother Gothel) is actually who was holding her captive and concealing her identity and worth as "Daughter of the King."

Flynn Rider, who is extremely symbolic of Jesus climbs the tower to save her from the darkness, but he is killed by that same exact darkness.
His dying act was to free her from captivity by cutting away the very thing was keeping her there.

As soon as the mirror sliced through her hair the enemy lost all power. Rapunzel's first reaction is shock, she was attached to Mother Gothel, because it's all she had known.
And just as Jesus made us His "new dream" in order to save us, we too must embrace Him as "our new dream." To walk out of the things that held us captive and into the loving arms of Our Father.
