Early on our first morning we walked under the golden sun through the valley to nearby villages, and on our way back it began to rain. So we called for a ride, and stopped alongside the road under some trees. As we were waiting we sat down along the fence, and while we were waiting there was a bright flash of lighting and probably the loudest thunder I’d ever heard. When I look up our 17 year old translator, B. Is laying in the road, stiff as a board, fists clenched, and suddenly it begins pouring and hailing. Just as all of this occurs we see our ride coming over the hill splashing through the mud. We wave him down, pick up B., who is still completely stiff, lay her down in the back row of seats, then the 15 of us crowd into the bed of the truck lifting up prayers amidst the storm as we are speeding towards the nearby clinic.
Meanwhile inside the truck Emma is checking her pulse and breathing. We gently get B out of the car when we arrive, and she is still in the same stiff position. We all huddle around and pray for healing, for her muscles to relax. Instantly, her fists lose their grip, her eyes open and her body relaxes. She was able to stand up but was still very weak, confused, and in shock. So we pick her up again and carry her into the clinic. She is rushed into a room and Kristen, our leader, continues to pray for her, she prayed for B to have clarity and understanding of the situation and suddenly she became far more aware.
While we were all in the waiting room, my teammate Daniella prayed over two of the elderly people who didn’t really speak English but felt so blessed. B. eventually walked out and the rain cleared, B. put her arms around Emma and Kristen as they helped her back to the car as her legs were still very weak. We all crowd back into the truck and as we go over the steep, bumpy dirt roads we talk about how amazing God is and the miracle we just witnessed.
B. Honestly could have died that day, but Jesus is so good and faithful and will use this as a testimony of his power and glory.
